At NUA Naturals, we're huge fans of Chia seeds!
Not only can they be eaten in a variety of ways but they are extremely nutritious!
So today we thought we'd share some chia seed facts in case you’ve been thinking about trying them yourself…
1. They absorb lots of water
Meaning they make you feel full for longer. but make sure to take lots of water with them.
2. They're rich in Fibre
So they’re going to keep you regular. And about 20% of the fiber is soluble. The beauty of soluble fiber is that it promotes a healthy digestive system by feeding the good microbes in your gut.
3. They're highly nutritious
Chis is made up of protein, fat and dietary fibre. Plus there’s a heap of minerals including calcium, magnesium, iron, and phosphorous.
4. They have a weird texture
The seeds themselves aren’t too dissimilar to poppy seeds, but add water and you have a completely different seed. Slimy or oozy is probably the best way to describe it. We love it!
5. They make a brilliant low carb breakfast
Use 2-3 tbsp. of chia seeds with 250ml milk or water. Either soak overnight in the fridge or leave for 20 minutes if you’re short on time. add in your favourite berries and fruit and enjoy hot or cold!
6. They’re high in Omega-3s
So if you’re not eating enough fish, they are a great alternative.
7. They can be used as an egg replacer
Mix 1 tablespoon of milled chia seeds with 3 tablespoons water for each egg you’re replacing in baking.
So we hopefully have tempted you to try some chia seeds next time your in your local health store!
